If you are looking for a relaxing and meditative denouement to your weekend, head out with Mary for a Big Sit and let the birds come to you! We will visit a place with a variety of habitats and views, and will spend this leisurely trip sitting in one spot and spending time with the birds that come through. You may learn which individuals have built a nest nearby, or who is defending their territory, while you pay careful attention to the birds within your field of view. We will focus on mindful modes of behavioral observation from the artistic to the scientific, and explore the similarities and differences between these lenses of attention. Birders of all experience levels are welcome. Bring snacks, water, layers for extended time seated, and a portable seat (e.g., camp chair, sitting pad). You are invited to bring a journal or notebook for field notes and sketching. This trip is designed with accessibility in mind, so please let us know about any accommodations we can make for you.
